Liechtenstein Extends Tax Treaty Network

The Liechtenstein tax administration has recently negotiated and initialed a double taxation agreement in the area of taxes on income and on wealth with the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Liechtenstein government reported that the tax agreement is mainly based on the OECD’s Model Tax Convention, and will serve for the further positive development of economic relations between two countries.

This is the first tax agreement of such kind being signed by Liechtenstein with the Kingdom of Bahrain. The signing of the agreement is expected to take place in 2013, and it is due to apply from January 01, 2014. The text of the agreement will be published after the signing.

After having successful negotiations, delegation leaders of the Liechtenstein and South African tax administrations also initialed a tax information exchange agreement providing for tax assistance upon request between two countries. The agreement is based on the OECD’s international standard on mutual assistance.
